It’s been 14 days since I left fontana dam, and I’ve worn my rain gear on all but 3 of those days. Someone told me it rained 60% of the time on their AT hike, but 80%? Come on!
I think because of all the moisture and wet socks I’ve developed some strange rashes on my legs. I’m sure the dirty sweaty clothes don’t help. My legs and arms arm quite noticeably all muscle now, while my chest and stomach are withering away. My finger nails get very long too with no idle time to pick or bite them, which might account for the holes in the tips of my gloves. My hands overall look older, weathered. I’ve been wearing the knee brace every other day now, and have lost at least 5 pounds. I’ve had to resew the button on my pants once already and it looks like I’m going to have to do it again, or get a belt!
Meditating is still hard. But I came to a realization today. While I came out here to regain some sense of control in my life, I can’t control the weather or how steep the mountains are. Maybe life really isn’t about control, but how you roll with it.

Amen, Now, about the body physique – that you can control. Eat more food!! Just you wait till I get to Damascus – there will be food and more food.
