For those who haven’t heard about it in the news, the NASA UARS (Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite) is expected to crash into Earth sometime tonight.  It is unlikely to hit land, let alone people.  It does weigh some 1300lbs though, and while most of it will burn up in the atmosphere, there could be chunks as large as 300lbs that make it through.  The satellite was launched in 1991 by the now decommissioned space shuttle to study the ozone layer costing roughly 740 million dollars to build.
