{"id":144,"date":"2009-04-17T19:45:40","date_gmt":"2009-04-18T00:45:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/appalachia.matthewmosher.us\/?p=144"},"modified":"2009-04-17T19:45:40","modified_gmt":"2009-04-18T00:45:40","slug":"songs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.matthewmosher.com\/appalachia\/thoughts\/songs\/","title":{"rendered":"Songs 399.1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s hard to be on the trail and not have a song going in your head.\u00a0 I think the natural rhythm of walking has a lot to do with it.\u00a0 The songs that loop in my head change from day to day, and even multiple times a day, but when I was starting out these ones would get stuck quite often:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>House of the Rising Sun &#8211; The Animals<\/li>\n<li>Walk of Life &#8211; Dire Straits<\/li>\n<li>Planet of New Orleans &#8211; Dire Straits<\/li>\n<li>City of New Orleans &#8211; Arlo Guthrie<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can see that leaving New Orleans probably had some sway over my audio selection.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Other things I&#8217;ve noticed are that ZZ Top only works when you&#8217;re going down hill cause it&#8217;s so fast, where as things like Joanna Newsom and other folk songs work better going up hill cause they are too slow.\u00a0 I was listening to my iPod for the second time so far today and realized that Man-O-War makes excellent hiking songs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But a lot of the time you get songs that you don&#8217;t really like, or haven&#8217;t heard in years.\u00a0 For instance, yesterday was full of Hootie and the Blowfish&#8230;\u00a0 A few days ago it was Barbie Girl by Aqua&#8230;\u00a0 And when the sun broke after all that rain it was Pepper by the Butthole Surfers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The trail also gives you a lot of time to think about the songs, and you start to realize things, like how aweful a song Whatever You Like by TI is for society,\u00a0and how positive\u00a0The Way I Are by Timberland is.<\/p>\n<p>So yeah, music is great.\u00a0 It helps pass the time.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve even lost enough of my sanity to start singing these songs aloud as I&#8217;m hiking, which helps ward off bears, and other hikers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s hard to be on the trail and not have a song going in your head.\u00a0 I think the natural rhythm of walking has a lot to do with it.\u00a0 The songs that loop in my head change from day to day, and even multiple times a day, but when I was starting out these [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-144","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-thoughts"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.matthewmosher.com\/appalachia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/144","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.matthewmosher.com\/appalachia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.matthewmosher.com\/appalachia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.matthewmosher.com\/appalachia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.matthewmosher.com\/appalachia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=144"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/www.matthewmosher.com\/appalachia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/144\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.matthewmosher.com\/appalachia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=144"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.matthewmosher.com\/appalachia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=144"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.matthewmosher.com\/appalachia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=144"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
